TAKING 5 – Shantall Lacayo at home in Nicaragua

20130504-213646.jpg

This is the designer whose jumpsuit I am taking in my pannier throughout Central America just to wear with a cowboy hat in Las Vegas. It’s the only piece I know that will make me feel fab with whatever silly adornment I choose to add.

Riding through her beloved Nicaragua, I checked in with Shantall once more.

CHECK IN – Flight 001 – San Francisco

20121127-224305.jpg

Pan Am Flight 001 “Round-the-World” service originated in San Francisco, stopping  in Honolulu, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Delhi, Beirut, Istanbul, Frankfurt, London and finally New York, and Mr. P flew it, FIRST CLASS of course, although I think the sea of Champagne and the renown ‘Pan Am smile’ clouded parts of the journey…and here I am being so terribly charitable.

Flight 001′s shop is part of a 10-fleet operation run by John Sencion and Brad John with every conceivable bit of travel kit you could possibly want for! Our darling hostess had the patience of a saint as we spent over an hour checking every conceivable product to make our journeys less cumbersome.

Between us, we chose four products that one couldn’t possibly travel without:

1. Space Makers (really do help with multiple stops).
2. iHome mini speaker (a big sound that works with all our i’s).
3. Universal adapter in orange (so dayglow, how could I possibly forget it?).
4. On You Weigh Luggage Scale (for when shopping gets out of hand).

Then I spotted one piece of luggage that was just beautifully luxury! Mmmmmm, The Lipaut Paris 4-Wheel Trolley.

Der Pan Am Flight 001 “Round the World” Service fing in San Francisco an.

4. On You Weigh Luggage Scale (für wenn das Shopping nicht aufhört)

Dann sah ich auch ein Stück Reisegepäck, das so herrlich luxuriös war! Mmmmm Der Lipaut Paris 4-Wheel Trolley

Coffee or cake? What comes first in Cayucos, California

20121124-200642.jpg

Cayucos feels like the old Hove in England used to – rather desolate and home to a large retiree community in the sun. BUT WHOAH, THAT’S WHERE IT STOPS! It just happens to be home to the ultimate Brown Salt Butter Cookie on the West Coast and the most delicious coffee ever!

Sisters, Traci and Christa Hozie started the Brown Butter Cookie Company around four years ago with a small deli in Cayucos where they sold their home baked cookies, and like a blockbuster storyline, the cookies just kept them coming back, so much so that they moved to a much larger premises. The scent of home baking or butter browning is prevalent in Cayucos’ air and your stomach just does not stop rumbling until it’s cookie FED! As you walk into the factory, you’re greeted by the idyllic scene of a bygone era – girls and women dough-making, rolling, baking, chatting and laughing…weirdly, it REALLY GOT TO ME. Maybe a previous life? Revival came in the way of a sample tray and the tip-off of great coffee nearby…

Top Dog Coffee Bar prides itself on its baristas and Sydnie has to be the best and was able to completely hold her own in front of Mr. P’s knowledge of roasting beans and such like! The coffee was the nearest to Italian I have come to in the USA and service? Well, it’s as near to 100% as you can get!

You either get hyped on the coffee and need to come down with the wheat in the cookies, or sugar up with the cookies and explode with caffeine in the coffee…

You can’t do one without the other. The Brown Butter Cookie Company and Top Dog Coffee Bar is an all too unmissable combination.

Tips from lovely lady expand my Los Angeles vintage portfolio

Specialising in boots and 50′s & 60′s dresses, this shop is a treasure trove of carefully placed items!
Micki of Lemon Frog Shop is constantly on the move, chatting as she goes along. The front of the shop is home to bargains at $10, which as you move into the heart of the shop gets pricier and more specialised.
As a true vintage hunter, she has a couple of beloved things put away that she loves to show, but can’t bear to part with…a white Courreges bag, a Pucci bra, a red weaved 40′s jacket….mmmmm and some great sunglasses..
Sadly, the time was far too short and there weren’t enough sunglasses for boys to keep Mr. P occupied. Whilst in LA he has so far managed to amass a total of 4 pairs of spectacles – 2 vintage and 2 Oliver Peoples.
