Beyond Skin – 10 years on and the brand goes worldwide

A lot is afoot at Beyond Skin for Summer 2013, not least that they’re in The USA, Canada, and Singapore. They have also expanded on their ‘to die for platform sandals’ – a fair trade trainer using FSC natural latex and the Lupo pump with a cool embroidered dog illustration by Cat Finnie.

The Lupo pump, retailing at £171, will be featured in each seasonal collection and a different embroidery depicting a chosen charity, of which 5% of its profits will be donated. The SS13 collection supports THE DOGS TRUST CHARITY.

Blocked heels, toe courts in vibrant reds, corals and blues with lots of eye catching gold…they almost eclipse Beyond Skin’s beloved fabric wedge in its traditional zig zag print, but even this is reworked with a new exotic animal print, immediately transporting one to open air entertaining and the intoxicating smell of magnolia. Sighhhhhhh…

Spring brings with it two collaborations: 1. Designers Guild and 2. green goddess Liva Firth’s collection for YOOX, for which I can’t wait!

Meanwhile, musing on a yummy lavender coloured Vegan Tart cupcake, I can’t help thinking how well the girls have done!

Die SS13 Kollektion unterstützt THE DOGS TRUST CHARITY.

It’s always a pleasure visiting Ecoluxe. This bi-annual event takes place at LFW right next door to Fashion Scout, and there are always a few excitements, especially this footwear fantasy!

It started with Michel Tcherevkoff‘s tiny shoe sculptures, then there was the book and then there was Po-Zu .

Po-Zu, who has already had a successful collaboration with Timberland worldwide, has decided to indulge a woman’s wildest footwear desire by interpreting Michel’s ingenious floral designs into high fashion and wearable art.

At the moment there are only five shoes in the collection with limited production, but if you see Tcherevkoff’s book there are more, and bags too, and Po-Zu looks set to make them all! I have already put my name down for Footloose and a pair of future boots, although I didn’t manage to squeeze my foot into their sample size 37. I’m a fan of their sustainable and toxic free standards and natural latex, and the stitch and turn construction makes all their footwear incredibly comfortable.

Maria Grachvogel & Atalanta Weller – A match meant to be?

Maria Grachvogel is every grown up women’s favourite on EDITD. Her transparent blouses were the most cyber talked about trend of the day! Being a trouser fiend myself, I rather preferred the transparent trousers!

Gorgeous cosmic prints and really wearable garments with sizing from 6-20, Maria has a  flagship store in London and an online shop. She is in love with designing for REAL WOMEN! It shows…

So what’s missing? The shoes? NOT SO. Her catwalk collection sported shoe designer Atalanta Weller and her fabulous mega wedge sandals with her classic zig-zag monochrome cigar heel…a little birdie told me that boys collection is imminent!

Wellers’ second SS13 collection (made in Portugal) includes fabulous cut out ankle booties that would be a natural on my tootsies and it is exclusive at Urban Outfitters.

Design your own shoes at Upper Street

Pinucci founder Alexandra van Berckel let me into a secret. She’s crazy mad about shoes. ‘Aren’t we all, Love,’  I purr…

Alexandra’s talent for design has her preparing a twice yearly collections that are manufactured in Artisan workshops in Italy and Spain. Her shoes have a passing resemblance to Rayne - delicate and fabulously crafted, but the price range is somewhat more favourable at about £200 for heels.

Madonnas brother Christopher Ciccone is not only renown for the book on his sister -surprise, surprise, but he is a respected interior designer and artist. He fell into shoe design when approached by Czech shoe company, Novesta. Combining a classic look with innovative modern materials and O’Keefe’s imagery, he was inspired to create a fall/winter 2013 footwear collection. I have to say I was truly impressed by The Ciccone Collection. The sharp three-dimensional effect emanating from the shoe comes from a layering process developed with Norvesta over months. I understand that this is only the beginning. Christopher is set to grow this into a whole lifestyle brand.

Sister team Katy and Julia are behind designing your own shoe at Upperstreet.com. Julia deals with the internet side, while sister Katy who lives in Hong Kong, works with their manufacturing factory in Asia. It’s a good model…and in 4 weeks you’ve got your shoe!
They’re waiting for App approval to make it easier on their customers to design online! With an office in North London and a main site stocked with examples and options, it’s really not so difficult to get going!

They also have a rather nice option of gift cards, ideal for the boys to give as presents. So if a Mr. P is reading somewhere, this is a birthday present – especially with something sickeningly inspiring engraved on the inside of the sole.
