Boxes + Charms + Jewels = Jewelberry!

20120617-160155.jpg

There is big, big common ground between the Bavarian population and myself. We’re both mad about charms. So it’s befitting that I found this amazing Jewelberry dispenser in Munich – where the two darlings of German media, jewellery designer Margarita Turtureanu and stylist Lily Sielaff, have opened one of their two Jewelberry boutiques.

Of course the Bavarians wear their charms slightly differently…such as on the bodice of their dirndl.

Or, if you’re a boy, well, anything is permissible!

Iki-m and whole new area of Munich

A tip off from SIX magazines’ fab Alina got me jumping on an efficient tube bound for Frauhoferstrasse just hours before riding out of Munich!

Anne showed me around her amazing eco- conscience boutique, whose collection of fab label Stewart and Brown is the largest I have EVER seen.
There is a little den of vintage finds tucked away round the back of the shop which is great for a rummage & she also plays home to a selection of German labels, Armed angels being MY FAVOURITE.

Schnee balls and fashion, but THANK GOD FOR ACTORS

20120617-150939.jpg
Cutesy in the most picture postcard way, the walled Medieval city of Rothenburg is an ooooh aaaagh kind of place! The floweriness is even apparent in ANRA-mode - Anett Rafoth’s collection – a successful Franconian designer.

Schnee balls (snow balls) are a donut speciality, which not being a donutty person I wasn’t too keen on! – although aesthetically, these look superior! I mean Champagne ones – I GUESS YOU HAVE TO TRY!

Rothenburg is the only place in Germany to date that I have run into American and Japanese photo hogging! So it was a soothing respite to run into Berlin actor, Jan Uplegger who will be playing in Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps at the THE TOPPLER for their summer season. This lovely tucked away city theatre is the smallest in Germany.

BMW World Munich

20120619-225740.jpg
I have heard so, so, so much about IT!

Not sure what to except of this biking Mecca - BMW headquarters in Munich.

A whole city of immaculate signature grey buildings. BMW museum, BMW mini, BMW cars, BMW motorbike - it’s BMW world! So, I am expecting the works. It’s busy. I mean really busy. There are bikes and bikes and Gore-Tex clad riders, mostly male, everywhere, but there is no free coffee (the paid variety is divine, by the way and served by a beautifully charming boy) while you wait and no WiFi, ugh.

But, and there is a big but…in Mark, the fab manager and Maximilian, who kindly stopped us from going mad with the ghastly GARMIN system. It’s really lucky that BMW have such a great team. Its really these guys that makes you forgive all their other peccadillos!

In fact the only cool kit I saw was the Atlantis 4 jacket, which has been in production since about 1992. It’s totally waterproof and has a vintage bomber jacket feel, reminiscent of a HOLLYWOOD babe production. Unfortunately it’s selling at 895 euros, but I think I’m hard pressed to find it much cheaper secondhand or on eBay.

Alexa Schwab – Vintage in Munich

Alexa spotted me immediately when I walked in with cries of, ‘LOVELY, LOVELY, it’s a 60′s piece you’re wearing. I have some TOOO!’ As she ushered me to rails upon rails of vintage finds, our relationship was cemented!

Alexa not only sells, she rents too, and has a rather large collection of secondhand dirndl (traditional Bavarian costume), which was getting a lot of local attention, as too were my gorgeous sparkly trousers – half of an outfit recently purchased at Fox and Squirrel’s temporary shop Sex and Death in London and carefully stored in my overladen pannier.

To say that I tried almost everything in the shop would be a serious exaggeration, but I tried everything in my size that was shiny and sparkly and very, very nearly ended up with a totally perfect 60′s brocade top.
