The Best Food Market in Auckland

Nosh Food Market

Nosh Food Market

Adam and Susana at Nosh

Rocket blue cheese salad nosh

Co-founders of NOSH, Clinton Beuvink and Chris Moore run, as far as Mr. P is concerned, the best food market in town.
They have have even managed to nail a deal with Waitrose in the UK to supply Waitrose produce to their 5 unique stores.
With Heston Blumenthal’s X-mas pudding already on the shelves, we managed to catch a quick word with head chef Adam at the busy Glen Innes store Cafe. A Kiwi, returned after 20 years cooking around the world, his UK work inlcudes Jamie Oliver’s 15 and Rick Stein’s Padstow cooking school.  Mr. P enjoyed a delicious serrano, pear and blue cheese salad.

A tip-off by Bev – Victorian Gilt in Auckland…could be my best vintage find yet!

Hayley at Victorian Gilt

Victorian Gilt - 83 Great South Road, Auckland

Vitorian Gilt - lace, linen, curtains, sewing tools, costume jewellery, Christening gowns...

The dentist is really not the place I would expect ever, ever to be talking fashion, but there I was mouth open and drill bits whirring whilst listening to Bev impart her knowledge on bargains and vintage shops. A hallucinatory experience!

Victorian Gilt was Bev’s favourite and now mine! It would take more than a week just to look at everything let alone to try everything on. The Shop is literally laden from top to bottom, even spilling over into the street with jewels, bags, shoes, fashion, material and sumptuous tidbits from every possible era. Gill Ward, the owner has travelled all over the world sourcing clothing as well as buying stock from forgotten shops from up and down New Zealand. But, the boutique is SO amazing because of Hayley, the shamelessly FAB assistant that literally knows each and every piece of stock and insisted upon dressing me up like a doll.

Totally PARADISE…

Gill is planning to relocate soon to somewhere smaller so if you’re in Auckland, GO NOW!

Cook the Books – a No. 1 foodie destination in Auckland

Felicity O'Driscoll at Cook the Books Demonstration Kitchen

Cook the Books is aptly named by Felicity who was previously in banking. First take a shop and fill it top to toe with every imaginable cookbook going, add a demonstration kitchen for international chefs to hold classes, then sprinkle in a couple of book launches, blend with zany owner, Felicity O’Driscoll and plate up at 139 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland – their new home.

Felicity has been cooking forever and is part of Auckland’s up-and-coming ‘foodie intelligentsia’ and what she doesn’t know about ‘The New Zealand Food Society’ is not worth knowing. Mr. P and I managed to catch up with her before she zoomed off to New Caledonia on a government initiative!

Having spent half a day vintaging about I thought it was only a fair swap for Mr. P to spend a couple of hours at Cook the Books. Luckily gossip in the food world is just as entertaining as the fashion world! – but equally as secretive. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Lucy & The Powder Room and the best ever wax!

Carmen Miranda? Or is it?

Emma looking beautiful at Lucy`s

It was only due to a cancellation at Lucy’s at `THE DEPARTMENT STORE’ in Auckland that was Emma able to fit me in!
Although she awfully young, she was incredibly skilled and thorough . In ONLY 40 minutes I was de-fuzzed and glistening with Sans body oil all ready for the promised SUN  at  THE RUGBY WORLD CUP FINAL!
I love Lucy Vincent Marr.  The Powder Room is her baby and she only sources non toxic and active ranges that are delivered with expertise and personal service. The beauty rooms take over all of the 2nd floor at The Department Store and stock an eclectic range of product including Butter London, Theodore (own brand), Becca, Jane Airdale, Mario Badescu and Sans skin care range.
I WILL BE BACK!
