The travel diary of a stylish woman and her journeys from the back of a motorbike
London fashion stylist, Lupe Castro, is traveling throughout Europe, Canada, New Zealand and Central America, all on the back of a motorbike.
The dentist is really not the place I would expect ever, ever to be talking fashion, but there I was mouth open and drill bits whirring whilst listening to Bev impart her knowledge on bargains and vintage shops. A hallucinatory experience!
Victorian Gilt was Bev’s favourite and now mine! It would take more than a week just to look at everything let alone to try everything on. The Shop is literally laden from top to bottom, even spilling over into the street with jewels, bags, shoes, fashion, material and sumptuous tidbits from every possible era. Gill Ward, the owner has travelled all over the world sourcing clothing as well as buying stock from forgotten shops from up and down New Zealand. But, the boutique is SO amazing because of Hayley, the shamelessly FAB assistant that literally knows each and every piece of stock and insisted upon dressing me up like a doll.
Totally PARADISE…
Gill is planning to relocate soon to somewhere smaller so if you’re in Auckland, GO NOW!

Cook the Books is aptly named by Felicity who was previously in banking. First take a shop and fill it top to toe with every imaginable cookbook going, add a demonstration kitchen for international chefs to hold classes, then sprinkle in a couple of book launches, blend with zany owner, Felicity O’Driscoll and plate up at 139 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland – their new home.
Felicity has been cooking forever and is part of Auckland’s up-and-coming ‘foodie intelligentsia’ and what she doesn’t know about ‘The New Zealand Food Society’ is not worth knowing. Mr. P and I managed to catch up with her before she zoomed off to New Caledonia on a government initiative!
Having spent half a day vintaging about I thought it was only a fair swap for Mr. P to spend a couple of hours at Cook the Books. Luckily gossip in the food world is just as entertaining as the fashion world! – but equally as secretive. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
